HEAT MAT REQUIRED

Needs 75°F+. Cold soil = rotted seed.

COOL SOIL ONLY

No heat mats. >80°F = dormancy.

Surface sow or vermiculite dust.

Lettuce Fail: 80°F chamber = zero lettuce. Start on coolest bench.

Pepper Patience: Often pops Day 10-12. Don't dump at Day 7.

Celery Mistake: Needs light. Surface sow + constant moisture.

Spinach in Aug: Shade/barn starts. Sun trays hit 85°F.

Group 1 — Heat Seekers (Summer Crops)

Heat mat or chamber required. Move to bright light at emergence.

Melons	Standard	90°F	80-95°F	3-5	Highest heat requirement.
Basil	Light	75°F	70-85°F	5-7	Light aids germination. Dust vermiculite.

Group 2 — Cool & Fast (Brassica Workhorses)

Standard greenhouse temps work. Heat mats speed them up; watch for stretch.

Group 3 — Finicky (Light or Temp Sensitive)

Respect COOL SOIL and LIGHT REQUIRED warnings. Lettuce + spinach hate heat.

Bench Rule: COOL SOIL crops on the coolest rack (low/shaded). Heat seekers stay in chamber until emergence.
